Maggie was a radiant soul, who was taken from this Earth too soon. From what I understood, she loved butterflies, wildflowers, laughter, her family, and embodied kindness and compassion in everything she did. In late 2023, Maggie reached out to me to enroll in the 2024 Yoga Teacher Training, soon after having found the courage to leave an abusive relationship for herself and her two young sons, eager to nurture her new path and embrace a life filled with love and safety, her life was taken from her (just days before the training began). Before her outreach, I had known Maggie as the little sister of a family friend, an acquaintance in our small community. However, her desire to pursue this opportunity touched me. And while no one in the class that year knew Maggie personally, we honored her by holding a place for her throughout the training. We held a space in her memory, shared gifts, and presented her family with a certificate on graduation day. We reserved an extra spot during class, and lit a candle for her on special occasions. We fondly referred to it as "Maggie's spot," reminding us of her light and the place she deserved to sit. In her honor, I am offering a fully funded scholarship to someone who is ready for this training and step forward in their life, but has more hurdles than seem to make it possible. With gratitude to her family for allowing us to celebrate her legacy, I invite anyone interested to apply for this opportunity.
